It is a teeth whitening product and comes in a pair, one for each set of teeth. Because of an active ingredient in the formula, i.e., peroxides, it can remove all stains and make your teeth whiter.

How Do Whitening Strips Work?

Often the ingredient used in whitening strips is peroxide because it is an active ingredient and works as a bleach to remove stains. The use of hydrogen peroxide is preferred by the manufacturer. However, few of them use carbamide peroxide.

The strips are made up of polyethylene with a thin film of peroxide. When you place the strip on your teeth, the peroxide layer reacts at the surface of the teeth and loses the stains, making your teeth whiter.

For a long-lasting and effective result, use it twice a day and keep using it for up to two weeks.

It is better to avoid brushing your teeth before strips because strips and toothpaste both are chemicals and react with gums. When you use both on your teeth, it may result in gum irritation.

Moreover, according to manufacturers, brushing before the use of the strips makes the tooth’ surface smooth and reduces the sticking power of the strip.

However, if your teeth have a thick layer of plaque and any food particles, you should brush them before the strips. But don’t get wild and brush gently in a circular motion to avoid any gum damage.

It is recommended, if you have to brush before the strips, then do it 30 minutes before to give a break to your gums.

Should I Brush My Teeth After Whitening Strips?

According to manufacturers’ directions, there is no such rule that you cannot brush after whitening strips. You can brush and floss your teeth, but don’t get harsh with them to keep gums and teeth enamel safe.

When you remove the strips, a layer of chemicals stays on the teeth, which may disturb you so that you can wash them with water. If you plan to brush your teeth, do it gently and use a soft-bristled brush to avoid any gum irritation.

It is safe to brush before and after the whitening strips unless you follow the directions. Moreover, use the strips for only 30 minutes and never leave it longer; otherwise, it can irritate and damage the gums.

Visit your dentist and ask for the right whitening strip and the usage time for you.
